ARNOEVOO 2016

arnoevoo, glenn vanderbeke, bredene, wedstrijd bredene

RESULTS FETA 2014!

As you have read in previous post, I was selected to compete in the FETA 2014 competition.
This is a competetion hosted for students by the Federation of European Photographers.
Last weekend they announced the winners of the QEP , MQEP and also the FETA.

FETA 2014

The ‘Federation of European Photographers’ were hosting a second edition of the
‘FEP Emerging Talent Award’. But what does it mean exactly?

FETA is a leading European award for photographic students and their works will be judged against photographers from across Europe. The aim is to encourage and recognize the high standard of photographic image making taking place in Europe by graduating students.

Basically it is a photography contest for students from Europe. Each applicant must submit a portfolio of 12 images and will need the support and approval of their institute course leader. To be included in the shortlist, the student should be under 30 years of age and their portfolio should ‘hang together’ as a unified collection. It is also recommended that the images tell a story. Each institute can only select 4 portfolios to participate.

Syntra West selected 4 portfolios and mine was one of them.
If you want to see the other student who got selected, you can read my other blogpost.

The results

Last weekend the judging for the QEP and MQEP took place in rome. The judging of the FETA portfolios was on sunday. You could imagine I was waiting the whole day for news.
At 2200hrs I recieved a message from my course leader Jürgen de Witte (who also won a QEP label for his portrait series) congratulating me with my MERIT AWARD.

Thats right ! My documentary serie about IREBERO won a MERIT AWARD.
A merit award is an award that the judges give to outstanding submissions.

IREBERO, my reportage about the likenamed educational center in Gisenyi (Rwanda) was awarded with a MERIT AWARD.

FIRST PUBLICATION

As you may or may not know , I recenlty finished my 365 project.
During this year of daily photography I came up with an idea to write an article about it.
I did not expect at all that ‘that same article’ later in the year would be published in a magazine.

THE ARTICLE

What started as a kind of a joke with the friends I was doing the 365 project with, turned ‘serious’ rather quickly!

I was aiming to get my article published somewhere. But because a lot of magazines create similar content I contacted only 1 magazine.
The magazine I chose to contact was ‘SHOOT‘, the number 1 Belgian photography magazine.
I learned a lot about photography the past 3 years due to this magazine, so this has to be the right magazine, I said to myself.
To my surprise the chief editor liked my article a lot; he said it was encouraging him to start his own 365 project.
He accepted the article and told me he would publish it as soon as my project was finished.

This is a historical moment, lol  … MY FIRST PUBLICATION ! 🙂

I’d like to thank Erik Derycke for giving me this opportunity!
